Polish SPAP needed lightweight yet effective ballistic protection for urban counter-terrorism and high-threat missions. The BAT-98 broke from older Warsaw Pact era steel helmets by adopting modern composite\/Kevlar construction and appears to draw from Russian designs such as the SKIF and ZSH-1-2.
